When we first meet her, Aura is the spoiled daughter of Ming. She is fascinated by Flash Gordon when she first sees him. She begs Ming to let her have him, but Ming refuses saying he is too dangerous. Eventually Aura learns the error of her ways, joins the rebellion against Ming, and falls in love with Prince Barin.

Barin is the rightful ruler of Mongo, his family was long ago deposed by Emperor Ming. Prince Barin, the ruler of Arboria, has been leading a rebellion against the tryranical Ming the Merciless. Barin hopes to one day over throw Ming and reclaim Mongo as it's rightful ruler. Barin is attracted to Princess Aura, Ming's daughter.

Thun is the leader of the Lionmen, a leonine race of people. He becomes one of Flash's first allies. Flash and Thun join Prince Barin in his fight for the freedom of the people of Mongo from the clutches of the tyrant Ming.

Vultan is the brash egotistical King of the Hawkmen. The Hawkmen are winged race of people who live in city floating in the sky supported by anti-gravity rays. The Hawkmen are at odds with the people of Arboria. Vultan is reluctant to join Prince Barin against Ming, even though Vultan himself is no fan of Ming. Vultan becomes Flash and Prince Barin's ally after the destruction of the Hawkmen's Sky City by Ming the Merciless.
